Lewis Hamilton shared a picture on social media where he can be seen working out in the gym along with team-mate George Russell
Lewis Hamilton is getting into the groove ahead of the Australian Grand Prix. The 7-time World Champions has shared a picture on his Instagram account story where he is seen sweating it out with Mercedes team-mate George Russell. Most of the F1 teams and drivers have arrived in Australia as preparations behind for the weekend race at Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne.
The British drivers share a good relationship on and off the track. Hamilton is known to have issues with team mates at Mercedes previously and has fallen out with a number of them, more famously with Nico Rosberg back in 2016. The camaraderie between Hamilton and Russell definitely comes as a welcome change for the Mercedes F1 team.
Both Hamilton and Russell are meanwhile very close to each other even on the drivers’ championship leaderboard. Russell has made a good start to the season and occupies 4th place with 22 points while Lewis Hamilton has had an indifferent start to the season and lies just behind Russell in 5th spot with 16 points – not quite living up to expectations so far this season.
Can Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes turn things around in the Australian Grand Prix?
Mercedes have had a really tough start as a team. They have won the last eight constructors’ championships in Formula 1. The indifferent start to the 2022 season definitely comes as a shock and surprise to the team and the F1 community in general. Things didn’t quite go to plan for the F1 team in either Bahrain or Saudi Arabia. Mercedes find themselves in second place in the Constructors’ standings with 38 points, way behind Ferrari who are on 78 points.
Lewis Hamilton had a horrible start to the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in Jeddah. He was knocked out in the very first round of qualifying – first time since 2017. Hamilton started the race in his P15 grid slot but could only manage a 10th placed finish earning one point. This is definitely not the start that the 7-time world champion was expecting ahead of the 2022 F1 season.
Speaking on the rough start to the season, Hamilton said, “The learnings are there that we are quite a bit off pace-wise and have got a lot of work to do. You always want to take the positives from a difficult situation but we’re not here to settle for that. We can’t walk away being pleased with that.”
Can Hamilton make the podium in Melbourne? We will have all the answers in the weekend.
