Mario Andretti plans to buy Alfa Romeo F1 team from Sauber
Latest reports reveal that Mario Andretti, a Formula One Champion, is planning to takeover Alfa Romeo F1 from their current owners Sauber. It was earlier reported that the son of the former world champion Michael who is a former IndyCar champion has been interested in acquiring a F1 team from a long time now.
According to Motorsport.com, Andretti Autosports were closing in on a deal and were in advanced phase of the deal. Andretti previously shared his thoughts on owning a F1 team and said:
“I’ve been working on it (taking over a team) for a long, long, time. When the right opportunity comes up I’m going to jump at it. Nothing new to report at the moment, but, who knows?”
The current Alfa Romeo team principal was asked about the situation ahead of the Turkish GP and said (h/t: sportstar)
“I’m the CEO and team principal and these kind of discussions are not with me, it would be with the shareholders. We have so many rumours and so on that you have to ask the question to the shareholders of the company.”
It seems like the CEO of the team is not in on any speculation and is focusing on the races ahead.
Can Alfa Romeo achieve success with Valtteri Bottas?
It was recently announced that Valtteri Bottas wll leave Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 to join Alfa Romeo next year. A driver of Bottas’ stature will certainly hope to bring in success to the team. With the onset of new owners in the work as well, Alfa Romeo can significantly improve next season.
