2021 F1 Champion Max Verstappen reveals new helmet ahead of the upcoming season

Dutchman and Red Bull driver Max Verstappen revealed a new gold and white helmet design with a star on the back ahead of the new 2022 F1 season in March. The star commemorates his maiden Formula 1 World Championship, which he won in Abu Dhabi in December.

Verstappen also has the Number 1 on the back as he swaps his old 33 to celebrate his winning season. Verstappen led the championship for most of the 2021 season and ended with 10 poles and 10 wins.

“A bit more gold, as you can see, even “gives you wings” is in gold at the moment so that looks cool,” Verstappen said on Instagram.

“I decided to just not really change the design a lot, but of course change the colours a little bit, instead of the red you could see before, it is now basically fully gold everywhere with some tiny little details which improve… the thing also here [pointing to the Citrix branding in a gold pattern above the visor] a little more design into it.”

Lewis Hamilton narrowly missed out on a record-breaking title at the Yas Marina circuit. He has not made a comment since then, with reports suggesting the Brit could retire from the sport. A full enquiry was called for by the F1 Commission in February, which would help the Brit make a decision. Hamilton, who won 7 world titles, always chose 44 (except a 2018 Abu Dhabi practice session where he had the 1), but Verstappen has opted for the 1. The Dutchman believes such moments are rare and an opportunity like this should be grasped with both hands.

Verstappen will be wary of a new face in the Mercedes paddock. George Russell will take over the reigns from Valterri Bottas. The youngster has shown glimpses of his massive potential and will be a huge threat to Red Bull come the 2022 season.

Verstappen, meanwhile, will get his hands on Red Bull’s all-new 2022 car on February 23. Pre-season testing begins at Spain’s Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
