Max Verstappen cruised to victory at the Mexican GP ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Perez
Max Verstappen was incredibly consistent in terms of lap timing at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in last weekend’s Mexican Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver registered timings within 1 minute and 23 seconds in 69 out of 71 laps at the Mexico City circuit. It shows in the final result as well with Verstappen cruising to victory, much ahead of the rest of the pack.
Verstappen didn’t allow complacency to get in this way after being already crowned the world champion at the US Grand Prix. The reigning champion was at his fluent best in Mexico and other drivers hardly had a sniff. Verstappen dominated from the very start of the GP, securing the pole position in qualifying and then converting it into a dominating race win a day later.
The win in Mexico was Verstappen’s 14th in 20 races this season and saw him surpass Michael Schumacher (13 wins in 18 races for Ferrari in 2004) and Vettel (13 wins in 19 races for Red Bull in 2013) for the most victories in one campaign. Verstappen finished the race 15.186 seconds ahead of second-placed Hamilton – which actually represents how emphatic the win was. It was his fourth win in Mexico.

“I don’t care who you are/aren’t a fan of, or what silly conspiracies you buy into, this sort of consistency is incredibly impressive. Max is an exceptional driver, whether you like him or not. 1m 22 for >40 laps on medium tyres”, tweeted another fan.
Another fan wrote: “This guy is right up them with the best of them on tyre management, just doesn’t get noticed because he’s amazing at so many other things.”
