Spain’s Alex Palou is a former IndyCar and GP3 series champion and made his F1 debut at the 2022 US Grand Prix free practice
McLaren has now officially confirmed their drivers’ list for the 2023 season. Spain’s Alex Palou has become the latest inclusion in their roster as a reserve driver. Earlier this year, McLaren confirmed Oscar Piastri as Daniel Ricciardo’s replacement in the team and the Australian will partner Lando Norris for McLaren in the 2023 F1 World Championship.
In the 2023 season, Palou will provide support for the team alongside his driving duties in IndyCar, being available as a reserve driver for the team at all events that do not conflict with his IndyCar commitments.
Palou got a taste of F1 earlier this year when he took part in a free practice session at the 2022 United States Grand Prix with McLaren. The 25-year-old Spaniard has four wins and 15 podium finishes in IndyCar to date and holds the record of being the first Spanish driver to win the NTT IndyCar Series championship when he claimed the 2021 title.
