There have been reports of huge developments within the motorsport community and especially concerning Formula 1. F1 team McLaren is reportedly signing a lucrative 650m euros deal with Audi with Red Bull F1 team is looking to get into a partnership with Porsche. Reports claim that the billion dollar deal between McLaren and Audi could come in April itself with F1 achieving their goal of bringing huge car brands into the sport who can compete with the likes of Ferrari and Mercedes.
McLaren have an automotive division and are one of F1’s most historic and successful contractors and could see Audi takeovers of both areas of the working based outfit while maintaining the brand’s legendary name. Similar rumors involving McLaren had surfaced last year too. However, this time the reports seem to be more concrete. In 2021, McLaren had responded to the reports stating, “McLaren Group is aware of news media stating it has been sold to Audi. This is wholly inaccurate and McLaren is seeking to have the story removed.”
Porsche and Audi have both tried their luck in Formula E but now they seem to be poised to take the big leap to F1. Last season, Red Bull used Honda engine which turned out to be really successful. The Japanese outfit have however called time on their F1 return and Red Bull switched to in-house Red Bull Powertrains for their engine development.
Both these deals are likely to be materialised soon. The 2026 F1 race grid could see McLaren Audi and Porsche Red Bull line up against powerhouses like Mercedes and Ferrari. The deal between McLaren and Audi could be a much needed boost for the F1 team who are clearly struggling with their present car. “We just don’t have enough performance. There is no specific origin – the car works and the base is good but it lacks grip”, said McLaren’s team Principal, Andreas Seidl.
