Mercedes release photo of Lewis Hamilton on Twitter teasing comeback ahead of 2022 F1 season
Seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton is expected to return amidst retirement rumours before the 2022 F1 season. Mercedes posted a photo on Twitter of Hamilton after a long absence. The tweet features an image of Hamilton in his race suit holding his helmet. He is also seen smiling at various messages and tweets for the Mercedes’ driver. Hamilton, who was on course to win a record-breaking 8th World title in 2021, was heartbreakingly denied at the final lap in Abu Dhabi.
Red Bull driver Max Verstappen went on to take advantage of a safety car deployment to overtake Hamilton and win his maiden World Championship. Since then, the Brit took time off of social media and was devastated at the result. However, last week he posted a picture captioned: “I鈥檝e been gone. Now I鈥檓 back.!”
Mercedes have announced the launch of the W13 on February 18. Hamilton, who will partner with George Russell this season is expected to go once again for the record-breaking title in 2022. The Silver Arrows will be eager to avenge the happenings of Abu Dhabi and bring back the Drivers’ title to Brackley.
The pre-season testing begins in Spain on February 23 with the first race beginning on March 20th in Bahrain.
Will the Silver Arrows hit back at Red Bull?
With George Russell entering the fray, the lineup looks even more exciting ahead of the 2022 season. Red Bull’s Sergio Perez will find a new adversary in the 23-year old. Russell, who was racing with Williams since his debut in F1, finished as high as P2 in qualifying in a race last year.
The tools are all set for Mercedes to regain their dominance after the end of the hybrid era. Verstappen, the new World Champion with a #1 on his car now, will look to continue his momentum into 2022. The Red Bull car was significantly faster despite the number of penalties incurred last year.
We will have to wait and see how the season pans out. Will we see a Hamilton vs Verstappen: Part 2?
