Daniel Ricciardo has been replaced by Oscar Piastri at McLaren for the 2023 Formula One season
Daniel Ricciardo has revealed the challenges that he faced during his spell at McLaren. The Australian driver joined McLaren from Renault in 2021 and has now been removed from the Woking-based team after just two seasons. Ricciardo will be playing the role of a third driver at Red Bull next season after his full-time seat at McLaren was taken by Oscar Piastri.
Ricciardo explained his problems during his spell at McLaren on ‘Beyond the Grid‘ podcast. “I think on both ends we struggled, in terms of the team trying to understand what it was and how to then update it and improve it. But from my side I’m also like, ‘Okay, I’m not perfect. Sure, I’ve got some weaknesses, this car happens to expose a few of them.’ But, let’s say, I still didn’t find a way to gel at one with this car often enough”, said the Australian driver. Ricciardo also stated that he faced similar struggles with the car even during the 2021 season and there were not many improvements this year.
Fans react to the revelations made by Daniel Ricciardo on a podcast
Ricciardo’s statements revealed mixed reactions from fans on Twitter. Let us take a look at some of the responses.
“The car was unpredictable.Dan was less prepared to explore it’s limits than Lando was.Draw your own inferences”, wrote a fan.
Should’ve stayed at Renault. Cyrill told you “he will regret”, tweeted another fan.
“If you have a driving style for most of your career and then you get into a car that is built around someone else’s style? Yes. It’s going to be rough especially because Lando is quick. #DR3 did win a race last year”, wrote a fan, who doesn’t quite agree with Ricciardo’s claims.
“Nice guy and all that, but top natural talent drivers adapt to what they are given to drive….he made a few bucks over the years, so can’t feel too sorry for him”, read a tweet.
Another fan trolled: “Not being fast enough being the biggest challenge.”
