Ralf Schumacher was among the many celebrities in attendance at last weekend’s Miami Grand Prix and had a tussle with a security guard
Former F1 racer Ralf Schumacher has demanded an apology after a security guard apparently misbehaved with him at the Miami Grand Prix last weekend. Schumacher is currently working as a pundit with Sky Deutschland F1 and was in attendance as a part of the network’s coverage team. Schumacher wants an apology from Formula 1 and claims that he was pushed by a security guard and got hurt in the incident.
It was not just Schumacher who was apparently manhandled by the security at the Miami Grand Prix. The German driver claims that his friend and fellow Sky F1 pundit Jenson Button was also treated the same way. Schumacher revealed what happened to him during an F1 review show on Sky Deutschland. “The security pushed me over so brutally, which hurt me a lot. We can forget the scratches, but it just doesn’t work that way. I expect an apology but it’s much more important that something like this doesn’t happen again”, an evidently offended Schumacher said.
Speaking of how Jenson Button was treated in a similar fashion, he revealed: “Jenson wanted to go through the area from the inside, but the security held him back in an unpleasant way until someone from Formula 1 apologised. There was no overview at all.” However, no official action has been taken based on these complaints as of now.
Where do things stand after the Miami GP?
There was enough drama both on and off the track at the Miami GP. After an enthralling race weekend, Red Bull continues to dominate the drivers’ championship standings having registered yet another 1-2 finish in Miami.
They have made fantastic start to the season and previously recorded 1-2 finishes in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan besides a top-of-the-podium finish in Australia Max Verstappen leads the standings with 119 points followed by his team-mate Sergio Perez, who occupies the second spot with 105 points.
Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso lies in the third spot with 75 points – ahead of Lewis Hamilton, Carlos Sainz and George Russell. The Red Bull duo have already created a considerable gap between themselves and the rest of the pack – other drivers need to pull up their socks very soon if they are to stand a chance.
In the constructors’ championship, the picture is no different. Defending champions Red Bull are miles ahead of the pack having accumulated 224 points. Aston Martin are significantly behind in second place, having earned 102 points from five races so far. Mercedes are placed third in the leaderboard with 96 points in their kitty – a whopping 128 points behind the leaders.
