Adrian Newey has been with Red Bull since 2006 and is currently the Chief Technical Officer of the F1 outfit
Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner has confirmed that the team’s CTO Adrian Newey will stay with the F1 team for “many years to come”. There have been speculations recently that Newey might move away from Red Bull as his contract is up for renewal, but Horner has put an end to all the rumours.
Newey has been associated with Red Bull since 2006 and has played a pivotal role in designing Red Bull’s championship winning cars.
In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, Horner brushed aside all rumours surrounding Newey’s future. “His heart is still very much in Formula 1 and his commitment to the team is, it’s not something. We don’t talk about contracts or longevity of contracts, but he’ll be here for many years to come”, the Red Bull boss emphatically stated. He further added: “There’s always going to be rumours in this paddock, that’s Formula 1, but not all of it is true.” This certainly comes across as bad news for Red Bull’s rivals as Newey is one of the most sought-after men in F1.
Red Bull CTO Adrian Newey took his first step into F1 in 1988 for the March team, which was later renamed as the Leyton House Racing team. Newey worked with them for three years before moving to the Williams F1 team in 1991. He had a successful tenure at Williams from 1991-1997, with his cars registering 59 race victories. He then moved to McLaren in 1997 and worked there for close to a decade till 2005. Newey made the switch to his current team, Red Bull in 2006.
Red Bull emerged as a singular powerhouse over the last decade in F1 and Newey has played a pivotal role in their stellar success. The British Engineer is considered to be so important for Red Bull that his contract was renewed instantly after he received a £20m contract offer from Ferrari in 2014. Newey continues to enjoy immense success in his role as the CTO of Red Bull and there is no doubt he will remain an integral part of the team in the coming years.
