BMX legend Kriss Kyle performed insane stunts on Red Bull’s BMX bowl suspended under a hot air balloon
Red Bull is known for doing the impossible and their latest ‘Don’t Look Down’ Project has taken the internet by storm. The ambitious project involved designing a skate park which was suspended from a hot air balloon 2000 feet in the sky to display the very latest in carbon fibre technology. BMX legend Kriss Kyle had the responsibility of riding the BMX bowl and perform insane stunts – a task he certainly did to perfection especially because there was no room for error.
This ambitious project saw the worlds of F1 and BMX collide as Oracle Red Bull Racing team took up the job of creating something not seen before. The engineers of the Red Bull Advanced Technologies (RBAT), who usually spend their time designing parts for Max Verstappen’s F1 car had a task on their hand and they certainly passed with flying colours. The project demanded unique needs and the RBAT team used carbon fibre to build a structure where each section’s thickness was designed to provide overall strength besides keeping weight at a minimum.
Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner is delighted that the team could pull it off. In an exclusive interview to Sky Sports, the Red Bull boss said: “The thought of riding a BMX bike suspended from a hot air balloon, 2,000 feet in the air…only Red Bull could come up with an idea like that”.
He further added: “All we could do was provide the technology of making a bowl that was light enough and strong enough. We used Formula One composite technologies to enable the stunt to happen, but I certainly wasn’t involved in the idea.”
Red Bull Racing seems to be in a league of their both on and off the F1 track. They have taken technological advancements to the next level which is helping them to set the bar really high even in Formula One.
If we take a look at the ongoing F1 season, Red Bull are dominating the drivers’ championship standings after a fantastic start to the season with 1-2 finishes in both Bahrain and Saudi Arabia followed by another top-of-the-podium finish in Australia.
Red Bull driver Max Verstappen leads the standings with 69 points followed by team-mate Sergio Perez, who occupies the second spot with 54 points while Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso lies in the third spot with 45 points – ahead of Lewis Hamilton, Carlos Sainz and Lance Stroll.
In the constructors’ championship, Red Bull’s dominance is clear as they lead the table with 123 points. Aston Martin are significantly behind in second place, having earned 65 points from three races so far. Mercedes are placed third in the leaderboard with 56 points.
