Red Bull launches 2022 F1 livery on RB18 show car ahead of season opener in March
Red Bull has revealed its 2022 Formula 1 car called the RB18, which will be used by Max Verstappen in his first season as World Champion.
Team principal Christian Horner said that the new RB18 would evolve significantly from its launch model. This could mean that the actual design of the car is revealed during preseason testing later on February 23. Verstappen will done the number ‘1’ , after becoming the first RedBull driver to win the World title since 2013.
Talking during the reveal, Horner said: (h/t Formula 1)
You’re always improving. You can always learn from previous experiences. But of course, the complete new set of regulations is going to be all about the development; how quickly the teams get on top of the set of new regulations.”
“It’s the biggest regulation change for probably 30 to 40 years in Formula 1, so development is going to be thick and fast, and of course with the cost [cap] it has to be efficient,” he added.
Red Bull will look to replicate the form of 2021 into the new era. Sergio Perez, the other Red Bull driver had a successful debut season with the team, winning his first race in Baku. Verstappen, meanwhile, was utterly dominant winning 10 races and 10 pole starts in the season.
Larger wheels, low-profile tyres and swept wings will be common across all teams hereon. The V6 turbo hybrid has been renamed as “Red Bull Powertrains” after Honda decided to leave F1 last season.
Mercedes will be disappointed with how the 2021 season ended. Despite winning another Constructors Championship, they narrowly missed out on scintillating double in F1 history. The team has revealed the launch date for their W13 on February 18.
They have also been bolstered with the addition of George Russell into the team. The 22-year old replaces Valterri Bottas, who moves to Alfa Romeo for the 2022 season. The 8-time Constructors Champs will face another battle this season with their fierce rivals.
The two will go head-to-head again to find the best team and driver in Formula1 in 2022.
