Sergio Perez welcomed baby boy Emilio to his family with his wife Carola Martinez ahead of the 2022 Spanish GP
Sergio Perez is a happy man and is having a good time both on and off the track. The 2022 season has been Perez’s best start to an F1 season, having scored his first pole position in the sport after more than 200 Grand Prix starts. The year has gotten even better for the Red Bull driver with the addition of another child to his family. The Mexican’s two other children, Carlota Perez Martinez and Sergio Perez Jr. were born in 2019 and 2017 respectively.
Perez now aims to get a good result at this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix as a ‘welcome gift’ for his new-born son, Emilio. Speaking ahead of the Spanish GP, Perez said – “If I can have a consistent weekend in the car then I know I can be up there and Max and I will be pushing for a repeat of Imola. Since Miami I have had a new baby, Emilio, so it would be amazing to welcome him to the world with a great result.”
He further added, “We know the track in Barcelona very well because of pre-season testing so we know what to expect but the car we tested in February is very different from the car we are now driving, in a good way, and it will be interesting to see gains we have made since then.”
Fans poured in with their congratulatory tweets and conveyed their best wishes to Sergio Perez ahead of the Spanish GP.
“AND IF YOU WERE SUPPORTING HIM BEFORE, YOU’RE EXTRA EMOTIONAL NOW. So nice to see him so motivated & he truly deserves an incredible result this weekend as a reward”, wrote an over-whelmed Perez fan.
A user on Twitter joked, “he will be slower, mark my words. Once you become a parent the edge goes off.” Others were quick to react to the comment making it clear that Emilio is Perez’s third child and the Mexican is not new to parenthood.
Another elated Perez fan (who infact also supports Ferrari) tweeted, “I will always support Checo, I may be a Scuderia fan, but I am absolutely excited he is on a top team. It’s what he has earned. One of the top drivers to never win a title. Wish he was with Ferrari, so please forgive me @redbullracing.”
