HomeSports NewsSergio Perez injury update: Is Checo available for the British GP?

Sergio Perez suffered a contracture after his crash at the Canadian GP in Montreal last week – injury update

Sergio Perez suffered a neck injury from his horrible crash at the Canadian GP. The Red Bull driver only became aware of his neck injury a few days later, and he is currently in the rehab period. He aims to be back in top form for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on July 3.

The Mexican is keen to come back strongly then from his disappointing weekend in Canada. “It’s always difficult to start the week after such a bad day. I had a bad strain after the crash, which I didn’t feel. I had a lot of pain but overall I am fine, everything is good”, said Perez.

Perez has just under two weeks to rehabilitate and prepare for the next race, but cannot train his neck as normal due to the injury. Therefore, the focus is on recovery, for which the Mexican is undergoing neck therapy. In this way, he hopes to regain his strength quickly and be able to take revenge at Silverstone.

Perez has so far given no indication that he could miss the race if his rehabilitation does not have the desired effect. Instead, he went on to reflect on another mechanical issue that saw his race in Canada end after only nine laps, and which saw him lose a lot of ground to team-mate Max Verstappen in the title race.

Checo is 46 points adrift of Verstappen with 13 races to go this season. Red Bull have won the last six races in a row, but the Dutchman has been the winner of five of those while Perez’s sole success came at the Monaco Grand Prix.

Where do things stand ahead of the British Grand Prix?

Red Bull dominate the drivers’ championship standings despite a DNF for Sergio Perez in Montreal. Max Verstappen leads the standings with 175 points, followed by team-mate Sergio Perez on 129. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc has closed the gap down to just three points and occupies third place with 126 points.
