The Vijay Mallya-owned Force India team has not been a part of Formula One since 2018
Force India’s F1 livery sporting the colours of the Indian flag is one of the most iconic liveries in Formula One history. The livery was first seen in 2008 and has no longer been in action since 2018, when the Indian team was taken over by a new legal entity in the form of Racing Point. The team’s livery and merchandise had a combination of Saffron, White and Green colours, similar to that of the Indian tricolour.
A picture of Force India’s old merchandise has gone viral on social media after it was seen being sold in the markets of Sri Lanka. Force India were one of the mid-table teams during their time in F1. During their ten-year stay in F1, Force India boasted of a commendable line-up of drivers including current active drivers like Sergio Perez, Esteban Ocon, Nico Hulkenberg and former ones like Adrian Sutil, Paul di Resta among other. The team registered six podium finishes and their final appearance in F1 came at the 2018 Hungarian Grand Prix.
Let us take a look at how fans reacted to the sight of Force India’s merchandise being sold in Sri Lankan markets.
“For some reason when seeing the first shirt, I immediately think of Sutil”, wrote a fan.
“Damn I’d buy those for sure. IK it’s just the Indian flag but those FI liveries rocked”, commented another fan.
“Its only like €2, so you could buy it and possibly sell it as a vintage item somewhere for more. Or just keep it”, suggested another fan.
“It’s a pretty cool colour scheme”, read another comment.
Another fan wrote: “I had bought the first tshirt design out here in Mumbai from a Reebok store. Still have 2 Force India branded tshirts till today.”
