The 2021 Styrian GP is expecting a ‘wet weather’ forecast ahead of double-header in Austria
The eighth round of the 2021 F1 season moves to the Red Bull Ring for the Styrian GP in Austria in a back-to-back weekend schedule.
Drama could intensify this weekend as the weather forecast expects rainfall during the entire race week on Sunday. The rainfall could also be a problem for some teams during the practice and qualifying.
Friday is set to see cool track temperatures with an 80% chance of rain with a possibility of thunderstorms in the afternoon. The qualifying day has the least probability of rain with a lowly 40% chance of rain.
Sunday sees a dry afternoon and the warmest temperatures throughout the weekend. Although, fans will be expecting delayed rainfall adding to more drama and twists as the season goes on.
Spielberg is in the foothills of the Alps, which sees summer thunderstorms, but usually comes late in the afternoon.
Where do we stand in the 2021 F1 season?
The drivers go into the double header in Austria with a lot at stake. Red Bull star Max Verstappen has taken a slender lead after winning at the French Grand Prix. Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton will be aiming to come back stronger after losing out during the final laps to his rival Verstappen.
Sergio Perez, finished 3rd, meaning he has now achieved back to back podiums for the first time in his career. With his win at Baku and Verstappen winning in Monaco and France, this is the first time that the Red Bulls have completed a hat-trick of wins in the turbo-hybrid era.
Red Bull lead the Constructors’ Championship with 215 points, against Mercedes with 178 points to their name. Lewis Hamilton, the 7-time World Champion will seek inspiration from last year’s win at the Styrian GP and close the lead. Mercedes have been outperformed by Red Bull several times this year. We could indeed see their dominant reign come to an end.
With Red Bull having home advantage in Austria, Verstappen will be looking to extend his lead over Hamilton and aim to win his first ever World Drivers’ Championship.
