McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo finished in thirteenth place at the British Grand Prix
Daniel Ricciardo received no favours from McLaren at the British Grand Prix as he was left to rue a lack of grip, DRS failure and slow three-stop strategy. The weekend couldn’t have gone much worse for the Australian who qualified in 14th, and finished in 13th. Ricciardo had been in the mix for a points finish, but suffered a DRS failure on lap 31 of 52, while he was made to pit three times instead of twice like most of his rivals.
In a video shared by McLaren F1 team on Twitter, Ricciardo said – “The car just didn’t really seem to operate at the same level of grip as the others. I could just feel it through the tyres as well, trying to carry speed.”
Speaking of the DRS issue, he added: “Obviously, it’s tough to overtake with that as well – but simply we weren’t really quick enough anyway today. It was a bit of a lonely afternoon.”
Fans react to Daniel Ricciardo’s message on Twitter
Fans are divided over their opinions on Ricciardo’s poor finish at Silverstone. While some are blaming McLaren for their poor strategy, others feel it’s time for a change in the driver’s seat.
“Pit stops poor strategies. If be careful what you wish for McLaren, if Daniel goes next year don’t think anyone else can make the car look better. He would have had a points result if not for DRS issues poor pit stops and pitting when he had track position. Goes both ways”, tweeted a fan who feels McLaren should be much better with their strategies next time.
“I feel sorry for Daniel, he is such a good guy and a talented driver. It is just time for a change. A change that is going to be good for the team and Daniel”, wrote a fan who believes, it’s time for change.
Another fan was very critical of Ricciardo – “I fail to understand how every driver has adopted to the new cars, even K Mag who had zero running, but Daniel hasn’t got ahold of it yet. How is that even possible”, he tweeted.
