Back in 2010, when Sebastian Vettel was just a new kid on the block, F1 experts barring David Coulthard laughed at the prospect of Vettel being a potential world champion. However, as things turned out, Coulthard was spot on with his prediction that Vettel would win the 2010 championship. He became the sport’s youngest title winner in 2010 and was crowned champion four consecutive times from 2010-2013.
Sebastian Vettel was 23 years and 133 days old when he won the 2010 world championship in Abu Dhabi, becoming the youngest winner of the world championship. It was the first of many to come for Vettel, who has gone on to establish himself as a legend of the sports.Since then, he has accumulated the third-most race victories (53) and podium finishes (122) and fourth-most pole positions (57).
Coulthard – one of the most successful Formula 1 drivers never to win the world championship, was spot on with his predictions. Coulthard himself has stellar stats in his F1 career. He started 246 F1 races between 1994 and 2008 and drove for Williams, McLaren and Red Bull. He took 12 pole positions, 13 victories and finished on the podium 62 times.
Sebastian Vettel has announced he will retire from Formula 1 at the end of the 2022 season. The 35-year-old German, who spent six seasons with Ferrari after joining the Italian team in 2015, will see out the remainder of his final campaign with Aston Martin. Vettel is currently third on the list of all-time Grand Prix winners with 53 victories, trailing only Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher.
“The decision to retire has been a difficult one for me to take, and I have spent a lot of time thinking about it,” said Vettel, who confirmed his retirement in a video posted on Instagram on Thursday. After making his debut in 2007, Vettel has achieved remarkable feats in F1 and has certainly established himself as an all-time legend of the sport.
