Watch: Kevin Magnussen reveals what inspired him to take up racing as a career

Kevin Magnussen will continue to drive for Haas in 2023 after replacing Nikita Mazepin earlier this year

It is off-season and the F1 drivers are already on vacation and festive mode. Haas F1 driver Kevin Magnussen is understandably enjoying his time off after a good season and he sat down with the team’s official watch partners – Cyrus Watches, for a quick candid conversation which helped fans to know him better. A short video clip of the interaction named: “Sixty seconds with Cyrus was shared by the team’s official handle on Twitter.

The interaction had a personal and friendly touch and it was mostly about how it all started for Magnussen and what he does in his leisure time. Speaking on what inspired him to take up racing as a professional career, Magnussen said: “My dad was a racing driver when I was born. The first race that I went to, I don’t remember, motorsport has always been a part of my life.” When asked what he does in his off-time, Magnussed replied: “I mainly just spend time with my family and catch up with friends. When I am not at races, I just try to be with my family cause whenever I’m at work, I’m in a different country.”

Kevin Magnussen is set to have a new partner in Nico Hulkenberg next season

Kevin Magnussen will pair up with Nico Hulkenberg at Haas in 2023. The US-based team has brought in Hulkenberg to replace fellow German driver Mick Schumacher. Hulkenberg will make a full-time comeback to F1 and drive alongside Magnussen next season.

Magnussen himself was a replacement driver last season at Haas, replacing Nikita Mazepin but he seems to have made his spot permanent now. He replaced Mazepin after the Russian was removed by the team following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In his return for Haas at Bahrain, Magnussen managed to start 7th and finish 5th, scoring one of only five top five finishes in Haas’s history up to that point. His fortunes continued in the 2022 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix where he made it into Q3 and qualified tenth. He later turned that into a ninth-place finish, securing Haas consecutive points for the first time since 2019. However, his form dipped from there on for the remainder of the season
