The bucket hat is Carlos Sainz’s prized possession – here’s what Lewis Hamilton thinks of it
Carlos Sainz’s bucket hat is often the subject of jokes among his fellow F1 drivers and Lewis Hamilton is not indifferent to it.
The seven-time World Champion was seen joking about it at the Spanish Grand Prix and the video clip has gone viral on social media. Hamilton was in a good mood after a commendable second-place finish in Barcelona, but Sainz must be a bit disappointed after only being able to register a fifth-place finish on home turf.
In a footage shared by the Mercedes F1 team’s official handle on Twitter, Lewis Hamilton can be seen having a good laugh about a particular picture of Sainz in a bucket hat. “I’ve this great picture of Carlos” – Hamilton can be heard saying in a sarcastic tone.
After showing the picture on his phone, Hamilton joked: “It’s the worst bucket hat ever.” The video went viral in no time and fans joined in for some banter and to have a good laugh about it. Some fans also pointed out how ‘heart-warming’ it is to see the camaraderie among the drivers in the current F1 grid.
Could Lewis Hamilton switch to Ferrari next season?
Lewis Hamilton’s future at Mercedes seems to be uncertain as both parties haven’t yet extended their contract which expires at the end of this season. Hamilton has made a decent start to the season, earning 87 points from seven races so far but is still far off from the Red Bull duo of Verstappen and Perez.
The seven-time Champion registered fifth-place finishes in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia before an impressive second place finish at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. However, there was a dip in form, and he had three consecutive finishes outside the podium before coming back strongly with a second-place finish at the Spanish GP last week.
In an interview with ESPN last month, Hamilton made it clear that he very much sees himself as a part of Mercedes in the long term. There have been speculations about him joining Ferrari, but the British driver has ruled out any such move besides confirming that he has no plans of retiring any time soon. “I don’t plan on stopping any time soon. I’m not at the end of my career, I’m not in the downhill slope of my career. I’m in my prime.”
The 38-year-old also specified that he wants to end his career at Mercedes and nowhere else. However, the rumours just don’t seem to subside and there is a feeling that things could change by the end of the current season.
