Lando Norris achieved his first F1 podium in 2020 and Drive to Survive Season 3 capture this amazing moment
Lando Norris and McLaren had quite a 2020 F1 season as they featured on the podium. Carlos Sainz also did the same but Norris achieved this feat in the first race of the campaign.
There was a lot of drama attached to this finish by the British star. Norris was a strong fourth coming into the final laps of the race and Lewis Hamilton was far away, more than five seconds of him in third.
However, Hamilton was handed a five-second penalty for a collision and Norris had to cut the gap to finish third.
He was outside of the time needed to finish on the podium but a mega final lap ensured history was made.
Norris and the entire McLaren team had to hold their breath for a while. The Brit did get the fastest lap of the race and cut the gap to 4.8 seconds. Euphoria erupted in the McLaren garage and Norris celebrated wildly too.
This was his first podium in F1 and created a platform for a good season.
Drive to Survive Season 3 has a lot in store for the fans
Netflix鈥檚 Drive to Survive is back for Season 3 and this is one of the events they have dipped into.
Norris is one of the most popular racers in the F1 paddock but the behind the scenes story brings up just how difficult it was to get close to Hamilton.
Norris also couldn鈥檛 believe what he had achieved but he became the third youngest F1 driver, at the time, to feature on a podium.
The 2020 F1 season was truncated thanks to Covid-19 but Norris and McLaren will be looking to build on last season.
McLaren finished third last season. Their drivers, Sainz and Norris, finished sixth and ninth respectively. However, there is a lot of positivity in the McLaren garage ahead of this season.
They are now powered by Mercedes engines and saw Daniel Ricciardo replace Sainz. McLaren looked strong in pre-season testing and it will be interesting to see if they start 2021 with a bang too.
