Nigel Mansell and Ayrton Senna are former F1 World Champions and are considered to be legends of the sport
Former F1 World Champion Damon Hill shared a clip on Twitter where Nigel Mansell and Ayrton Senna can be seen having a good laugh while giving an interview to Alan Jones. The clip is understood to be from the 1991 Australian Grand Prix in Adelaide. The footage has gone viral in no time and fans seem to absolutely love the golden throwback.
The 1991 Australian GP is remembered in F1 history as the shortest F1 race ever, curtailed due to heavy rainfall. Ahead of the race, Ayrton Senna was already crowned the World Champion – his third and final world championship. However, the race was not short of drama as the Constructors’ championship title was still left to be decided. Senna eventually won the race and McLaren sealed the constructors’ championship title.
Fans react to the throwback clip of Ayrton Senna and Nigel Mansell
Let us take a look at how fans reacted to this golden memory from the past.
“Two world champs standing shoulder to shoulder, chatting like friends, despite having tussled all year for the title. One wonders whether it will ever happen again”, a fan summed it up beautifully.
“I remember it back then, drivers could take each other out, argue ect but 9 times out of 10 no matter what they would all get on outside the car like a family. Is it the same now just we don’t see as much of the human side?”, wrote another fan.
“Loved watching these two racing against each other. Times when they didn’t get on but had respect for each other”, read another tweet.
“Back when F1 looked and sounded awesome and the drivers had huge balls and tons of charisma. Not like the whining babies we have today”, tweeted another fan.
Another fan wrote: “I remember being there on the Saturday at age 10 and loving every minute of it. Adelaide had an amazing track as well as a huge festival atmosphere. I’ll never forget seeing these guys whizz past my face.”
