Max Verstappen had a disappointing British GP by his standards – finishing seventh at Silverstone
Max Verstappen was looking in great shape to continue his fine run of form – five wins in six races – in the early stages of the British Grand Prix. However, after hitting a piece of debris that caused significant damage to his Red Bull, it became a race of “damage limitation” as he could only secure a P7 finish.
He is however, confident of coming back stronger in the upcoming races – “We’ll keep pushing to come back stronger in our home race in Austria, can’t wait to see the support by the Orange Army.”
Verstappen –who enjoyed a tooth-and-nail scrap in the final laps with Mick Schumacher, as the German scored his first F1 points – retains his championship lead but it has been cut to 34 points by teammate Sergio Perez with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc nine further back.
Where do things stand for Max Verstappen after the British Grand Prix?
Red Bull dominates the drivers’ championship standings despite a disappointing outing for Verstappen at Silverstone. Max Verstappen leads the standings with 181 points, followed closely by team-mate Sergio Perez on 147. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc occupies third place with 138 points ahead of British GP winner, Carlos Sainz – who is fourth with 127 points.
In the constructors’ championship, Red Bull leads the table with 328 points, and Ferrari is much behind in second place with 265 points. Mercedes have significantly reduced the gap between them and Ferrari. They occupy third place having earned 204 points.
