HomeFormula 1“What about when you have an engine failure or mechanical in real life, isn’t is the same?” – Romain Grosjean reacts to the server issues during 24h of Le Mans

The Virtual 24h hours of Le Mans sim racing event has been criticised by many – Romain Grosjean chimed in too.

Former F1 racer Romain Grosjean has shared his take on the latest controversies surrounding the Virtual 24 hours of Le Mans sim racing event. The Virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans is an e-sports automobile endurance, which is played online by several well-known professional racers. The latest edition of this event has been in the news after it was red-flagged due to a server issue. It is a coveted event in the simulation racing world and multiple top names including Max Verstappen were aiming to win their first title here. However, things didn’t go according to plan for most of them due to technical issues on the organisers’ end.

“What about when you have an engine failure or mechanical in real life, isn’t it the same?”, wrote Grosjean on Twitter responding to a tweet that sim racing is being poorly represented. The event was marred by security threats, red flags and cyber attacks. The race was affected by technical problems right from the start including the two servers being used for the event being the target of a security breach. Some of the players were disconnected from the race mid-way because of server issues while the race had to be red-flagged twice due to potential cyber-attacks.

Fans react to Romain Grosjean’s take on Twitter

Let us take a look at some of the responses from fans on Twitter.

“If your own computer fails – that鈥檚 similar to an engine failure. But the server disconnecting you is more like race control having a random shut-off switch built into every car that gets deployed at random”, wrote a fan.

“Romain I鈥檓 a big fan of yours on track, but you鈥檙e a Motorsport games technical advisor which is why I suspect you鈥檙e saying this. What happened with the server disconnects is different all together from reliability in real life”, tweeted another fan.

“Grosjean will help Motorsport Games by advising the company on how to grow its esports offerings, as well as how to improve the rFactor 2 simulation platform.”It seems that you have done a very poor job romain”, trolled another fan.

“Your team is in charge of reliability. Your team isn鈥檛 in charge of the server”, read a tweet.

Another fan wrote: “Engine failure or mechanical DNF would be equivalent to the athlete鈥檚 / racer鈥檚 PC crashing. Server crashing is the equivalent of tarmac ahead of you turn into gravel trap at random moments.”
