Otmar Szafnauer has been appointed as the new Principal of Renault-owned BWT Alpine F1 Team – here is all you need to know about his nationality
Otmar Szafnauer is a familiar name in the F1 circuit. The ex-Aston Martin boss has joined F1 team BWT Alpine as the principal as a part of the management restructure of the Renault owned F1 team.
Szafnauer has previously worked with the now-defunct team Force India and played an integral role in the team’s improved performance over the years.
Otmar Szafnauer is a dual citizenship holder
Szafnauer was born in Semlac, a small village in Western Romania to an American father of German descent and a Romanian mother. He is a Romanian-American, holding dual citizenship of both countries. He moved to the U.S.A when he was 7 years old and is an alma mater of the University of Detroit.
Szafnauer is thrilled to join Alpine and is looking forward to working with a brand new management team. “I am thrilled to join BWT Alpine F1 team and ready to work with everyone to achieve our challenge which is to bring the team to fight for the Championship within the next 100 races”, he said in a statement to Formula1.com.
The Alpine F1 team made their first entry to the F1 World Championship in the 2021 Bahrain Grand Prix. The two-time world champion, Fernando Alonso will remain with the team along with Esteban Ocon as the two drivers for the season.
They are based out of Enstone, Oxfordshire in the United Kingdom. The team has undergone a massive restructuring in management ahead of the new season and will be hoping it pays dividends in the long term.
