The Australian GP is scheduled to take place at the Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit on 10th April
We are well into the F1 2022 World Championship and it has been action-packed so far with two GPs done – Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. The thrills, the spills, the surprises, the shocks, the upset we’ve had everything. From defending champion Max Verstappen failing to register a timing into Kevin Magnussen securing a top 5 finish. He came in as a replacement driver in Bahrain. Verstappen came back strong in Saudi Arabia to win the GP but the shock came from Lewis Hamilton who settled with a 10th place finish after being knocked out in the first qualifying round itself.
We have seen the horrific crash of Mick Schumacher, the absence of 4-time champion Sebastian Vettel but thankfully. Both drivers are fine and are expected to be back in Melbourne. Things are heating up, we are just getting started – what we can we look forward to in the Australian Grand Prix?
Well, the burning topic seems to be – will Hamilton get his season back on track. The Brit is aiming for a record eighth F1 championship title after narrowly missing out last season. However, it has been an underwhelming start to the new season and some things need to change if he has to stay in the title.
Fans are loving the Leclerc-Verstappen rivalry and will we be treated to another intense duel in Melbourne? We certainly hope so.
There are lots of other aspects to look forward to but the potential return of Sebastian Vettel and Mick Schumacher is what we are waiting for!
The 4-time World Champion missed the first two races of the season after testing positive for Covid-19. Nico Hulkenberg replaced his fellow German for the Aston Martin F1 team. However, Vettel is now all set to be back for the Australian Grand Prix!
Meanwhile, Mick Schumacher missed the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix after suffering a horrific crash during Q2 of the qualifying session in Jeddah. Schumacher is physically well but was withdrawn by the Haas F1 team from the main race as a precautionary measure. It was a high-impact crash and Haas team Principal, Gunther Steiner didn’t want to take any risks although the driver was released from the hospital.
Schumacher’s return in Melbourne isn’t official yet but we do have indications that the driver is a set to be back doing what he does best!
“There’s too many unknowns about how he will feel in the morning and there’s nothing to be gained. The car obviously is in a state as it is and by having him out racing tomorrow could compromise our Melbourne efforts”, explained Steiner after Schumacher was released from hospital and returned home.
This statement clearly implies Haas have Schumacher in their plans for the Australian Grand Prix.
We wish Mick Schumacher a speedy recovery and certainly hope to see him back on the racing track in Melbourne!
