F1 action will move to Baku for the Azerbaijan GP after a break of two weeks
The 2022 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix will take place at the Baku City Circuit, giving fans a view of modern architecture as well as historic buildings around the capital city of Azerbaijan. The 5th edition of the Grand Prix will take place from the 10th to the 12th of June.
The Azerbaijan GP takes place at the Baku City Circuit – an FIA Grade 1 licensed circuit. It spans a total length of 6 km including 20 turns and has a capacity of 18,500. The circuit hosted an F1 Grand Prix for the first time, five years back in 2017.
No driver has won the Grand Prix twice since its inaugural edition in 2017. In the last edition, Red Bull’s Sergio Perez finished on top of the podium followed by Sebastian Vettel and Pierre Gasly. Valtteri Bottas (2019), Lewis Hamilton (2018), and Daniel Ricciardo (2017) are the winners of the previous editions.
McLaren and Red Bull are the most successful constructors so far the Azerbaijan GP with 2 titles each while Max Verstappen has recorded the fastest lap at this Grand Prix.
Given the trend of the Azerbaijan GP, it’s very difficult to predict a winner. We might very well have a new winner once again and inform, Max Verstappen comes across as the favorite to win, followed by Charles Leclerc.
Ferrari has been dismantled from the top of both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships. Max Verstappen leads the drivers’ championship with 125 points while Charles Leclerc is placed second with 116 points. Sergio Perez has significantly closed the gap at the top after a maiden race win this season in Monaco. The Mexican is placed third with 110 points.
In the constructors’ championship, Red Bull leads the table with 235 points, and Ferrari is behind in second place with 199 points. There is a fair amount of gap between the top 2 teams and the rest of the grid with Mercedes occupying third place having earned 134 points.
