Kazuki Nakajima is a retired Japanese professional racing driver and a former FIA World Champion
Kazuki Nakajima drove in Formula for a brief period (2007-2009) for the Williams-Toyota raving team. His debut race in F1 was the 2007 Brazilian Grand Prix while the final race of his F1 career was the 2009 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Nakajima has made a total of 36 starts in F1, earning 9 points in his brief career.
Nakajima started his F1 career for Williams replacing the retired Alexander Wurz. In the 2008 season, he was announced as a permanent driver, partnering Nico Rosberg at Williams. He started the 2008 season with a commendable sixth place finish in the Australian Grand Prix. Ahead of the 2010 season, Williams signed Nico Hulkenberg and Ruben Barrichello as their drivers, putting an end to Nakajima’s F1 career.
After his F1 stint, Nakajima participated in various top racing events across the globe. The Japanese star has won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, driving for Toyota Gazoo Racing, and is the 2018-19 World Endurance Champion along with team-mates Fernando Alonso and Sebastien Buemi.
He retired from racing after the 2021 FIA World Endurance Championship to take on the role of vice-chairman at Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe.
Nakajima’s former team Williams earned their first points of the 2022 F1 season in the Australian GP
Alex Albon finished 10th at the Australian GP to earn the first points of the season for himself and the Williams F1 team. Albon started the race on the 20th spot in the grid after being disqualified in the qualifying run. A jump of 10 spots for Albon was certainly one of the highlights of the Australian Grand Prix.
Albon stayed out of the safety car on the hards, running inside the top 10. The Williams driver’s impressive pace allowed him to stay ahead of Esteban Ocon and the other midfield runners before stopping on the final lap for soft tires, coming out just ahead of Guanyu Zhou to seal the 10th spot.
The first point for Williams means they move away from the bottom spot to take 9th place. Aston Martin has failed to register a single point so far and is placed bottom of the Constructors’ leaderboard.
