Here’s everything you need to know about the F1 track included in the latest edition of the Call of Duty video game series
The latest edition of the popular Call of Duty video game has included a playable F1 map that is based on the circuit of Singapore Grand Prix. The Marina Bay circuit, host of the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix, (named Crown Raceway in the game) is a playable map in this game, developed by Infinity Ward. The ever-growing popularity of F1 has filtered through to F1’s Esports platforms, with more gamers getting involved in the yearly F1 releases from Codemasters and EA. The Cr in Singapore is a playable six vs six-player map in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
The complete game was released on 28 October on Playstation and Xbox consoles, as well as PC. The first Beta trial for the game was launched on Playstation for early access pre-orders on 16-17 September – where players got their first taste of the map. The map known as the ‘Crown Raceway’ covers parts of Marina Bay’s pitlane and paddock complex – though no actual F1 branding is present, suggesting no partnership has been made between the developers of the game and F1 authorities.
The Singapore Grand Prix is one of the most-awaited races in the Formula 1 calendar each year. It takes place at the Marina Bay Street Circuit and was the inaugural night race and the first street circuit in Asia for F1 races. It doesn’t come as a surprise that gamers absolutely love the inclusion of the circuit in the very popular Call of Duty franchise.
The Marina Bay Street Circuit is a 5.063 km long track in a harbourside location similar in style to the Circuit de Monaco and the Valencia Street Circuit. The circuit holds a unique record of having at least one safety car appearance in every race to date. It is an FIA Grade I licensed circuit with a crowd capacity of 90,000. It is held at night and the amazing illumination of the circuit provides a viewing spectacle for fans across the globe.
