The Monaco Grand Prix is set to take place this weekend from 27-29 May at Circuit de Monaco – who has the most wins?
The Monaco Grand Prix is one of the oldest and most prestigious racing events in the world. It is one of the races—along with the Indianapolis 500 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, that form the Triple Crown of Motorsport. The 79th edition of the Monaco GP will be held this weekend at the Circuit de Monaco.
F1 icon Ayrton Senna is the most successful driver at the Monaco GP, having won it six times. McLaren are the most successful constructor with 15 wins while Lewis Hamilton holds the record of setting the fastest lap timing – 1:12.909, driving for Mercedes in 2021.
The first time Ayrton Senna won in Monaco was as a Lotus F1 team driver in the 1987 F1 season. After his first race win in 1987, Senna joined McLaren in 1988, and from 1989 to 1993, he went on a 5-year win streak at the Monaco GP.
The three-time world champion was the king of one-lap speed during his era as no one came close to him. Using that advantage to full effect, Senna racked up the highest number of race wins (6) at Monaco during his illustrious career.
How did things turn out in the last edition of the Monaco GP?
In 2021, Red Bull’a Max Verstappen won the Monaco GP with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and McLaren’s Lando Norris occupying the second and third spots on the podium respectively.

As a result, Max Verstappen as the de facto polesitter, though he lined up in the second grid position. Verstappen made most of the opportunity and converted his early advantage to a race win.
