As we approach British Grand Prix 2022, let us take a look at the event’s past winners in its illustrious history
The British Grand Prix has produced some of Formula One’s most historic and memorable records and races. Silverstone hosted the first Formula One Grand Prix championship race in May 1950. It was won by Giuseppe “Nino” Farina in an Alfa Romeo in front of an enormous audience that also included King George VI.
The 70-lap race was won by Nino Farina for the Alfa Romeo team. They started from pole position, with a race time of 2:13:23.6 and an average speed of 146.378 km/h. Luigi Fagioli finished second in another Alfa Romeo, and Reg Parnell third in a third Alfa Romeo.
Emilio Giuseppe Farina, also known as Giuseppe Antonio “Nino” Farina was an Italian racing driver. He was not just the first-ever British GP winner but also crowned the first official Formula One World Champion in 1950.
Interestingly, the first British GP was held way back in 1926 but was not a part of the F1 World Championship. The winner of the race was Robert Sénéchal, a French industrialist and motor manufacturer, racing driver, and pilot. However, since the event was not a part of the World Championship, Nino Farina is officially considered the first-ever British GP champion.
Who are the favourites to win this weekend at the British GP?
An intense Verstappen – Leclerc duel is on the cards at Silverstone. The Ferrari driver has to step up and push for a win if he has to cover the gap at the top of the drivers’ championship. The ever-consistent Sergio Perez and George Russell are certainly in contention for a podium finish along with Carlos Sainz.
All eyes will also certainly be on local favorite, Lewis Hamilton. He will be aiming for a record ninth British GP win.
P1 for Max Verstappen, P2 for Charles Leclerc and P3 for George Russell are the likely podium finishes at Silverstone this weekend.
