Why Lewis Hamilton could be banned before the prestigious F1 Monaco Grand Prix?

Lewis Hamilton has time until the Monaco GP to comply with FIA’s rule of not putting on jewellery during races

FIA’s rule states that “body piercing or metal neck chains” would not be allowed during on-track sessions. Lewis Hamilton was given a two-race exemption to comply with the FIA’s ban and removed his earrings, but not his nose piercing. Hamilton’s exemption will come to an end at the Monaco Grand Prix and if he doesn’t remove all of his jewelry, FIA could prevent him from going out of the pit lane.

Lewis Hamilton wears the most jewelry on the circuit and had claimed he is unable to remove his earrings and nose ring, which he wears in the car while racing. The 7-time World Champions sported eight rings, three watches, four necklaces, and two earrings at an F1 press conference and spoke passionately on the issue, claiming it felt like a “step backward” for the sport. It seems unnecessary to get into this. I am here to be an ally of the sport – we have bigger fish to fry,” he said

New FIA race director Niels Wittich has taken a strong stance on jewelry, with the organization’s rules stating: “The wearing of jewelry in the form of body piercing or metal neck chains is prohibited during the competition and may therefore be checked before the start.”

Lewis Hamilton was tipped as the favorite to win the 2022 F1 World Championship but as things stand after five races, Hamilton finds himself low down in sixth place on the drivers’ championship leaderboard. Hamilton’s team Mercedes has had no better fortunes and occupies third place in the constructors’ championship, way behind the run-away teams Ferrari and Red Bull. After a third-place finish in Bahrain, Hamilton has failed to make it to the podium in the next four races, registering P10, P4, P13, and P6 finishes in Jeddah, Melbourne, Imola, and Miami respectively.
