Felipe Drugovich is the reserve driver for both McLaren and Aston Martin F1 teams
Felipe Drugovich is in line for some real-time F1 action at the Bahrain International Circuit on 23, 24 and 25 February. Drugovich is a reserve driver for Aston Martin and McLaren F1 teams and is the favourite to replace the injured Lance Stroll for the pre-season test. Drugovich shared a picture of himself putting in some valuable time on his simulator and fans feel that it confirms his involvement in Sakhir later this week.
Drugovich is likely to replace Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll during the pre-season test run. Stroll has suffered minor injuries after a bicycle crash this week. Stroll was training in Spain and himself revealed that the unfortunate accident occurred while he was on his bike. As a result of this incident, Stroll will miss the F1 pre-Season test run set to take place in Bahrain from 23-25 February.
Felipe Drugovich had joined the Aston Martin F1 team at the end of the 2022 season as a part of their Driver Development Programme. He registered five race wins over the course of the 2022 season and sealed the championship at Monza, following which he was roped in by Aston Martin. He joined Aston Martin’s Driver Development Programme as their first member.
The Driver Development Programme has been designed in association with AMF1’s engineers and management and is intended to provide a stairway for junior drivers to reach Formula One. Besides having a test run this week in Bahrain, Drugovich is likely to drive in FP1 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as a substitute for Lance Stroll and will also take part in November’s young driver test at the Yas Marina Circuit. Things are falling in place for Drugovich and he doesn’t seem too far from a permanent F1 seat.
