Nico Hulkenberg has officially replaced Mick Schumacher at Haas F1 team for the 2023 season – will Mick be joining Mercedes soon?

Mick Schumacher is now officially without an F1 team after Haas roped in Nico Hulkenberg to replace him. Haas have announced that Hulkenberg will partner Kevin Magnussen in the grid next season. Magnussen, who replaced Mazepin at the start of this year following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, claimed Haas’ first pole position in F1 at the Brazilian Grand Prix last week.

Schumacher is understandably disappointed after being left out by Haas. In his official statement, Schumacher said: “I don’t want to hide the fact I am very disappointed about the decision not to renew our contract. Nevertheless, I would like to thank Haas and Ferrari for giving me this opportunity.” All F1 teams have more or less finalised their driver line-up for 2023 and that certainly makes Schumacher’s F1 future uncertain.

Is Mercedes, Mick Schumacher’s most likely next destination?

Mick Schumacher could take advantage of his family ties to secure an F1 seat with Mercedes next season. Mercedes have a vacancy in their reserve driver role and as per rumours, Schumacher is the favourite to take up the seat. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has also hinted that there is a possibility that Schumacher could represent Mercedes in 2023.

The Schumacher family has close ties with Mercedes and Mick could be roped in by the team, now that he has been released by Haas. Speaking on the possibility of Schumacher joining Mercedes, team Principal Toto Wolff said: “I make no secret of the fact that the Schumacher family belongs to Mercedes and that we appreciate Mick very much.” Mick’s father and F1 legend Michael Schumacher drove for Mercedes from 2010-2012 before retiring from the sport.
