Ferrari’s strategic decisions led by Mattia Binotto proved costly in Spa and once again it was Charles Leclerc on the receiving end
A theme which has dominated the first thirteen races of the season has again become a topic of conversation – Ferrari’s strategy. Though several factors acted against Binotto’s team in the Belgian GP, their decision to stop Leclerc at the end of the race eventually cost them a comfortable P5. More than just the two points lost, this decision was symbolic of how the majority of the season has unfolded for Ferrari.
However, Mattia Binotto has still defended the team’s strategy. “I think overall, it has been an unlucky situation. It’s not because of that we stop deciding and being brave to go for a fastest lap when conditions are there to go for it”, said the Ferrari principal. He further added, “I think sometimes we are not doing mistakes when it may have been perceived as a mistake. I think that the call to stop him was the right call. You need to be brave in F1.”
Fans have been pretty unhappy about Ferrari’s decision-makers. This incident just adds more fuel to the fire. Let us take a look at some of the reactions.

“The problem that I have with it, is that it was an unnecessary risk. What if the stop was slow or Alonso had an amazing lap. They lost points today because they played it too close”, wrote another fan.

“This guy has an ego ive never ever seen before, ferrari will NEVER win anything with Mattia as TP”, tweeted another angry fan.
