Will Pierre Gasly stay at AlphaTauri next F1 season?

Published by

Pierre Gasly’s future at Alpha Tauri is uncertain and strong rumours suggest that the driver is very close to a move

Pierre Gasly is expected to leave Alpha Tauri at the end of this season. The Frenchman is strongly linked to Alpine F1 and Gasly looks set to join them in 2023. Gasly is contracted to Alpha Tauri till the end of next season but sources believe that Alpine has agreed on terms with Red Bull for the release of Gasly. Alpine is desperately looking for an established F1 driver after the departure of Fernando Alonso and subsequently Oscar Piastri’s snub.

Alpine are also apparently ready to pay a fee to Red Bull for the release of Gasly from his Alpha Tauri contract. Gasly has an existing contract in place with Alpha Tauri that he had signed earlier this year, which doesn’t run out until the end of next season. However, things have changed drastically since then and Gasly’s ties with Alpha Tauri will come to a closure soon.

Could Yuki Tsunoda lead Alpha Tauri in the absence of Gasly?

Gasly’s departure from Alpha Tauri will also potentially mark the end of the bromance between him and Tsunoda. Both drivers have entertained fans with their off-the-track antics and they will certainly miss each other’s presence in the pits. Although Gasly is expected to leave, Tsunoda will stay with Alpha Tauri at least till the end of 2023 after having recently signed a new contract.

Yuki Tsunoda will continue to drive for Alpha Tauri in 2023 – his third season in Formula 1. The 22-year-old made his Formula 1 debut last year and will remain with Red Bull’s sister team for the next season at least. In 2021, Tsunoda scored 32 points but has struggled to match that tally this season and has only earned 11 points so far in 2022. In Gasly’s absence, the Japanese will be expected to take up a leadership role in the Alpha Tauri team.
