Yuki Tsunoda has looked impressive this season but a mistake led to crash at the 2021 Imola GP

There is no doubting that Yuki Tsunoda is one of the young drivers to keep an eye on. The 20-year-old Japanese stars scored points on his F1 debut with a ninth place finish at the Bahrain GP.

It was quite an impressive start to his F1 career though as he went toe to toe with Pierre Gasly. The two AlphaTauri cars look amazing on the track and the pair seemed keen on doing the same at Imola.

However, the track caught Tsunoda out during the first segment of qualifying. He lost control over the curbs, his car spun and he hit the wall.

Tsunoda was quick to get back to the paddock, but there was way too much work to be done on the car to see him get back on track.

The session was red flagged as the marshals worked hard to clear the track and send the car back.

The entire rear will have to be worked on and it is going to be a long night for Tsunoda’s mechanics.

Yuki Tsunoda apologises to the fans and the team

The Japanese star has a fire in him and many believe he will win races in the future. He is just 20 but has already caught the attention of many F1 fans.

Tsunoda posted a message in Japanese where he apologised to everyone. He then posted more in English where he added that the car was great but he was disappointed in himself:

“No words… I’m so disappointed to my self.

“I just feel really really sorry for the team. Car was amazing.”

Tsunoda will now start at the back of the grid while his teammate, Gasly, starts in a great 5th position. Tsunoda’s work is cut out for him and he will have to charge up the field to finish in the points.

However, the 20-year-old can pull off a miracle as the AlphaTauri’s are great and he should be able to shoot up the leader board on Sunday.
