McLaren CEO Zak Brown was overwhelmed with performance at sprint qualifying
Zak Brown who is the CEO of McLaren racing took to twitter to share how happy and excited he felt to confirming P2 and P3 at the Italian GP. He said:
“Credit to everyone’s hard work over the years, we line up P2 and P3 for tomorrow’s #ItalianGP. This is the team’s best collective starting position since Brazil 2012. I can’t wait”
Both McLaren drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris put on a great performance at the Sprint qualifying session. Ricciardo finished third and Norris finished fourth initially. Valtteri Bottas who secured the pole position was given a grid penalty because he changed his engine.
As a result both McLaren drivers were pushed up by one position. This as mentioned by Zak Brown has given McLaren their best team start since 2012 when then McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button secured P1 and P2 for the Brazilian GP.
Can McLaren get the job done?
McLaren drivers and their team will both look to take advantage of their starting position at the Italian GP. McLaren have not won a single race since 2012. Ricciardo on the other hand is still waiting for his first win since 2018.
Although not impossible but it’s a tough task to beat Max Verstappen who has the fastest car on the track. If he manages to do it then it will be an upset like last year when Pierre Gasly won the Italian GP.
Ricciardo will look to upset the odds and show that he has still got it by beating his former teammate at RedBull Racing and giving McLaren their first win in nine years.
