Seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton was very close to Ken Block and both shared immense mutual admiration
Pro Rally driver and co-founder of Hoonigan, Ken Block passed away on January 2, at 55. He was killed in a freak snowmobile accident in Woodland, Utah, United States. Block was riding his snowmobile on a steep slope in the Mill Hollow area in Woodland when it upended and landed on top of him and unfortunately, he was dead at the scene.
The motorsport community is in deep shock after this tragic loss. Lewis Hamilton, who was Block’s dear friend put up an emotional message on his Instagram story. The Mercedes driver wrote: “I’ve been mostly off social media to focus on my health and well-being. Today, I received news of the loss of a dear friend. I am devastated to hear of Ken Block’s passing.”
He further added: “He was such an amazing person, always lived life to the fullest. I remember our first time working together and how positive he was. So much talent behind the wheel. Years ago, we had an amazing time heli-skiing and snowboarding in Canada. We held so much respect for one another. He will truly be missed and my thoughts and prayers go to his beautiful family. Gone too soon. Rest in peace, Ken.”
Lewis Hamilton is shattered after losing two close friends in a short span of time
Lewis Hamilton has been going through a rough patch, losing two close friends within two weeks. Last week, Hamilton was devastated following the death of his idol, football legend Pele. Hamilton and Pele had tremendous mutual admiration and respect for each other’s work. It’s no secret that Hamilton absolutely loves Brazil and has always admired Pele. When the Brit was conferred honorary Brazilian citizenship, Pele even took to social media to congratulate the F1 star.
Now this week, he has lost another close friend in Ken Block. Block is one of the most well-known personalities in motor racing. During his career, he has competed in many action sports events, including skateboarding, snowboarding, and motocross. Block leaves behind his wife and three children.
