Mattia Binotto has resigned as team Principal of Ferrari F1 team after a long career spanning over two decades – here is everything you need to know about – When did Mattia Binotto join Ferrari?

Mattia Binotto has officially announced his retirement from the post of Team Principal of the Ferrari F1 team. Binotto joined Ferrari in 1995 as an engine engineer and became the Team Principal in 2019. He is known to be pretty popular among the team’s drivers and certainly leaves a void to fill in the Ferrari hierarchy.

In 1995, he joined Scuderia Ferrari as an engine engineer on the test team. From 1997 to 2003 he was an engineer in the Formula 1 race team, during the very successful Schumacher era. In 2016, he took on the role of Chief Technical Officer of Scuderia Ferrari. Since 7 January 2019, he took on the role of Managing Director of the Gestione Sportiva and Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal.

Who could replace Mattia Binotto at Ferrari?

As per reports, Ferrari are considering several options as a potential replacement for Binotto. Alfa Romeo boss Fred Vasseur has emerged as the most likely option owing to his experience of working in a big organisation.

He’s a great man manager, loves racing, and has over 25 years of experience running motorsport operations. The Frenchman also has a strong relationship with Charles Leclerc, having given the Monegasque his F1 debut.

Fred Vasseur

The Ferrari job is the biggest in F1 and thus, will be the most significant challenge of Vasseur’s career to date by quite some margin should he take the job. Binotto remains in his position until the end of December. An announcement on the Italian’s replacement is not expected until the new year. As of now, it remains unclear what Ferrari will do should Vasseur not take the role.
