F1 has traditionally been dominated by European countries – let us take a closer look at the stats at which nation has highest wins?
Lewis Hamilton currently holds the record for the highest number of race victories in the history of Formula One, having achieved 103 wins up to this point. Michael Schumacher, the previous record holder, comes in second place with 91 victories, while Sebastian Vettel secures the third position with 53 wins.
As of the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix, out of the total 774 drivers who have participated in Grand Prix races, there have been 113 winners in Formula One Grand Prix events. The inaugural Grand Prix winner was Giuseppe Farina, who emerged victorious at the 1950 British Grand Prix. The most recent driver to attain their first Grand Prix victory is George Russell, who accomplished this feat at the 2022 São Paulo Grand Prix.
Two drivers sharing a single car managed to secure victory in three notable Grands Prix: the 1951 French Grand Prix, the 1956 Argentine Grand Prix, and the 1957 British Grand Prix. Additionally, the roster encompasses winners of the Indianapolis 500 race spanning from 1950 to 1960. These winners were integrated into the World Championships, despite the fact that the Indianapolis 500 did not adhere to Formula One regulations and was not classified as a Grand Prix event.

1. United Kingdom (308) – British drivers have consistently showcased their skill and determination on the race track, with legends like Lewis Hamilton, Jackie Stewart, and Nigel Mansell leading the charge. Hamilton, in particular, has achieved remarkable success, consistently breaking records and amassing a significant number of wins, thereby contributing to the UK’s impressive F1 legacy.
2. Germany (179) – Germany holds a significant place in Formula 1 history, occupying second place in the list. The nation’s success has been propelled by iconic drivers like Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel. Schumacher, in particular, left an indelible mark on the sport, amassing an impressive number of wins during his illustrious career. 3. Brazil (101) – Brazil holds a strong place in Formula 1 history, thanks to the exceptional talents of drivers like Ayrton Senna and Nelson Piquet. 4. France (81) – France occupies the fourth spot, with a history of talented drivers who have made their mark on the F1 circuit. Names like Alain Prost and Sebastian Bourdais have contributed to France’s race win tally, showcasing their prowess on the international stage. While not as prolific as some other nations, France’s presence in the top five speaks to its consistent presence in the sport.
5. Finland (57) – Finland rounds out the top five nations, largely thanks to the remarkable achievements of drivers like Kimi Räikkönen and Mika Häkkinen. These Finnish drivers have consistently showcased their speed and skill, amassing race wins and further solidifying their nation’s place in Formula 1 history.
The Netherlands are climbing up this list very fast and deserve a special mention. The country has recorded 45 race wins in F1 till date and all of them have come through Max Verstappen. Verstappen could single-handedly take his country to the top five of this list if he continues his rich vein of form. Italy, Australia, Austria and Argentina complete the top 10 of this list. The United States occupy 11th spot with 33 race wins, ahead of Spain, Canada, New Zealand, Sweden and Belgium among others.
