Here’s everything you need to know about Alpine F1 team’s new CEO Philippe Krief
Philippe Krief is a motorsport Engineer and Business Executive, who has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Alpine F1 team. Krief has taken over as the new CEO of the Alpine brand, succeeding Laurent Rossi from 20th July, 2023.
While serving as the Vice President of Engineering and Product Performance for the brand, he will continue to fulfill his current responsibilities until his successor assumes the role. Krief is a member of the Renault Group’s Leadership Team and reports directly to Luca de Meo, the CEO of Renault Group.
Krief holds a degree from Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Techniques Avancées and has previously worked for Michelin and the Fiat Group. Following these roles, he went on to work at Ferrari and Maserati, where he served as the Vehicle Department Director and Technical Director of the Alfa Romeo brand, respectively. In June 2016, he returned to Ferrari as the Director of Engineering before being appointed as the Vice-President (VP) of Engineering and Product Performance for the Alpine brand on February 21, 2023.
Laurent Rossi is a veteran Engineer and business executive, who has been associated with professional motorsports for more than two decades. He has been replaced by Philippe Krief as the CEO of Alpine F1 team and Rossi would now focus on special projects linked to the transformation of the Renault Group. Rossi has a Master of Science degree in Fluid Mechanics from ENSEEIHT in Toulouse and a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Automotive Engines & Petroleum Products from IFP School in Paris.
Rossi commenced his professional journey at Renault in 2000, where he served in the powertrain department, overseeing projects related to fine-tuning and calibration of gasoline engines. These projects encompassed a wide range, including direct injection engines, supercharged engines, and hybrid concepts. After completing an MBA from Harvard Business School in 2009, he joined the Boston Consulting Group as an automotive expert, stationed in their New York office.
In 2012, Rossi transitioned to Google, where his responsibilities revolved around establishing and fostering business relationships with key accounts within the automotive industry. Returning to Renault in 2018, he assumed the role of Vice President, Strategic Organisation, eventually progressing to the position of Director of Strategy & Business Development for Groupe Renault. When the Alpine team made its entry into the Formula 1 grid ahead of the 2021 FIA Formula 1 World Championship season, Laurent Rossi was appointed as the CEO of Alpine.
