The defending champion Daniil Medvedev eased past Arthur Rinderknech in the second round of the ongoing US Open tournament.
In a mostly one-sided affair, the Russian tennis star defeated Arthur Rinderknech in straight sets 6-2, 7-5, 6-3. Medvedev’s serve was top-notch throughout the game as he hit 8 aces and had a win percentage of 77 on the first serve.
The Frenchman did show some fight in the second set but couldn’t close it towards the later stages as the World No. 1 managed to break his serve with the score at 5-5.
This is Medvedev’s fourth win in a row in straight sets at Flushing Meadows. He won his first-round match against Stefan Kozlov 6-2, 6-4, 6-0. Medvedev will take on China’s Wu Yibing in the third round. Yibing defeated Nikoloz Basilashvili and Nuno Borges in the first two rounds to set up a date with the 26-year-old Medvedev.
The 2022 Los Cabos champion will be the favorite going into the match against qualifier Yibing. The talented 22-year-old is the first player from China to reach the third round of the US Open and the third player from the country to reach the third round of a Grand Slam since Kho Sin-Khie reached the same stage at Wimbledon in 1938.
Tennis fans on Twitter heaped praise on the World No. 1 for his confident showing in a match that he was expected to win.
