The Canadian sensation squared off against another in-form player Holger Rune in the Basel Open final. Rune was blown away in the first set but he managed to make a strong comeback in the second set. However, Auger-Aliassime held his nerves to take the second set and scripted a memorable 6-3, 7-5 win. With this victory, the No. 3 extended his winning streak to 13. He lost just one set in the competition in the first round against Marc-Andrea Huesler.
Auger-Aliassime lost 8 finals before he won his first ATP Tour title. He has now managed to win four finals this season so far. Such was his dominance that he did not get broken all week. The talented youngster has held serve on 86 occasions in a row. He will move up to No. 8 in the ranking after the successful campaign which included a win in the semis against the world No. 1 – Carlos Alcaraz.
Auger-Aliassime joins Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, and Casper Ruud as the only active ATP players to win three consecutive titles in three weeks. He also takes home $408,054 USD for winning today.
