Iga Swiatek continued building her legacy as she won her first US Open title and third Grand Slam title overall after defeating Ons Jabeur in the final.
The World No. 1 was having a little lean patch after winning six consecutive titles in a row earlier in the year. However, as champions rise up to the big occasion, Swiatek played some mesmerizing tennis en route to winning her second major title of the year.
After the win, the 21-year-old received praise from fans as well as critics. Matthew Perry, best known for his role as Chandler Bing on the NBC television sitcom Friends, also lavished praise on the Polish sensation.
The 53-year-old American-Canadian actor was sitting in the stands at the Arthur Ashe Stadium for the final match on Saturday. According to his Instagram post, he went to watch the match with a couple of friends and his goddaughter Tara. Swiatek posted a tweet after her win and wrote:
“Me when I really wanted to be focused but I saw @MatthewPerry on the screen during the changeover. Could this BE any more exciting?”
Matthew Perry replied to this and wrote:
“Congratulations on your wonderful win yesterday, champ!”
Let’s take a look at how fans reacted following the interesting little interaction between Iga Swiatek and Matthew Perry on Twitter.
