The 19-year-old Emma Raducanu bounced back from the nightmares at the US Open and the Slovenia Open and began her Korea Open campaign with a relatively comfortable win against Moyuka Uchijima in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.
The Bromley-based Emma Raducanu won the first set with ease before racing to a 5-0 lead in the second set. The Japanese tennis pro – Moyuka Uchijima made a strong comeback after Raducanu’s two double faults while having the first match point gave her a glimmer of hope.
Uchijima won 4 games on the trot as the 2021 US Open champion looked a bit rattled. However, Uchijima’s splendid turnaround was halted by Raducanu in the 10th game of the second set. The British No. 1 managed to close the match with three good serves.
Raducanu will not be too pleased with the way she allowed her opponent to get back into the match. An experienced opponent could have made her pay for the late wobble. Raducanu will face Belgian veteran Yanina Wickmayer in the round of 16 on Thursday. The World No. 77 will look to go deep in this tournament. After the series of disappointments, a title triumph could instill some much-needed confidence in her, as she looks to turn things around.
