The 28-year-old began the year on a strong note as she reached the quarterfinals in Sydney. She made the quarterfinals at the Dubai Tennis Championships and the Qatar Open. After playing some scintillating tennis at the Charleston Open, Jabeur narrowly missed out on winning the title as she lost in the final against Belinda Bencic.

After another quarterfinal appearance at the Stuttgart Open, the World No. 2 won her first title in 2022 at the Madrid Open. She followed it up with a run to the final at the Italian Open, where she lost to a rampant Iga Swiatek.

After suffering a debacle at the French Open where she lost in the first round, Jabeur bagged her second title of the season at the Berlin Open to kickstart the grass-court season. The fact that she lost just one set in the tournament was a testament to her domination.

Jabeur made history at Wimbledon as she became the first African woman, and the first Arab or North African player in the Open era to reach a Grand Slam final. The Tunisian No. 1 lost to Elena Rybakina in the final but her performance was lauded by fans as well as critics.

The US Open heroics of Ons Jabeur

Jabeur made it to another quarterfinal at the Silicon Valley Classic where she was ousted by Veronika Kudermetova. In the US Open, Jabeur repeated her heroics at Wimbledon and made it to the final.

She lost just one set during the course of the competition on her way to the final. Jabeur defeated the likes of Madison Brengle, Elizabeth Mandlik, Shelby Rogers, Veronika Kudermetova, Ajla Tomljanovic, and Caroline Garcia to set up a mouth-watering clash with Iga Swiatek.

The Polish star once again proved to be her undoing as Jabeur lost her second consecutive Grand Slam final. However, her staggering achievements have been recognized and she has deservingly been named the Arab Sports Personality of the Year by the Fatima bint Mubarak Women Sports Awards committee.
