The Tunisian sensation Ons Jabeur is having a season worth admiring. She made light work of an in-form Caroline Garcia in the US Open semifinal, outplaying the Frenchwoman 6-1, 6-3.
The 28-year-old has been at her dominant best at the competition. She has dropped just one set in six matches so far and is one win away from becoming a Grand Slam champion. Caroline Garcia also came into the match on the back of some impressive performances. In fact, she didn’t even lose a set in the tournament before facing the World No. 5. Tennis fans thought that the match will be closely-contested. However, Jabeur showed her class and stormed into her second consecutive Grand Slam final.
By virtue of the win, Jabeur became the first African woman in history to reach the final of the US Open. The one-sided match ended in just 1 hour and 6 minutes. The Wimbledon finalist fired down eight aces and won 83% of her points on the first serve. Garcia, on the other hand, just managed 2 aces and won 48% of her points on the first serve. She also failed to win a single break point throughout the match.
Jabeur will face World No. 1 Iga Swiatek in the final. Both women will be entering their second Grand Slam final of the year. While Swiatek won the French Open final against Coco Gauff, Jabeur faced an upset defeat against Elena Rybakina at Wimbledon.
