Rafael Nadal fans endured another heartbreak as the 22-time Grand Slam champion suffered his second straight loss at the ATP Finals and fourth on the tour. He was outclassed by Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
A season that started on a great note is coming to a very disappointing end for the Spanish legend, Rafael Nadal. After losing his match in the round of 16 of the US Open against Frances Tiafoe, Nadal has been searching for a win but it has eluded him for quite a while. Tommy Paul ousted him in the round of 32 of the Paris Masters before the ATP Finals.
In Nadal’s first group encounter, he showed a good fight in the first set against America’s Taylor Fritz. However, the youngster dug deep and bagged the set. In the second set, it was all about Fritz as he completely dominated the veteran.
Nadal took on the in-form Felix Auger-Aliassime in his second match of the tournament on Tuesday. The young Canadian used his red-hot service to rattle Nadal. Whenever Nadal seemed to be on the brink of getting on a roll, Auger-Aliassime’s service came to his aid. The 22-year-old managed 15 aces in the match compared to just 1 from Nadal. Nadal’s serve on the other hand put him in trouble quite frequently. He committed two double faults and had a win percentage of just 67 compared to 81 for Felix. In the entire match, Nadal could not force a break.
Let’s take a look at how the Twitter world reacted following the match between one great player and one future superstar.
