Franco Colapinto – Early Career

Colapinto’s journey into motorsport commenced at the age of nine when he ventured into karting. His early accomplishments included clinching the Argentine Championship titles in both 2016 and 2018, in addition to securing a notable victory at the 2018 Youth Summer Olympics. In 2018, he marked his transition to car racing by participating in the final round of the F4 Spanish Championship under the banner of Drivex School. The following year, Colapinto signed with FARacing by Drivex for a full-season campaign in the F4 Spanish Championship. His debut car racing season was a spectacular success, as he claimed the championship title by winning all three races in the season finale. This remarkable achievement brought his tally for the season to eleven victories, 13 podium finishes, and 14 pole positions.

In the 2019 season, Colapinto had a few notable racing stints. He initially drove for Drivex as a guest driver in the 2019 round at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, and Drivex continued to field him during that season at Spa and Catalunya. In July 2020, Colapinto decided to make a full-time commitment to the championship by joining the Dutch team MP Motorsport.

Furthermore, in January 2020, he teamed up with Kiwi Motorsport for the 2020 championship, where he achieved a race victory at Hampton Downs and secured seven additional podium finishes. His outstanding performance led him to claim third place overall in the championship standings and secure the rookie championship title.

However, for the 2022 season, he made a significant decision and opted to join Van Amersfoort Racing (VAR). His teammates for this season were Rafael Villagómez and Reece Ushijima. Colapinto made a strong start to his F3 career, securing a pole position during his and the team’s debut in the series at Sakhir. He continued to impress by winning the Sprint Race in the next round at Imola, marking his and VAR’s first victory in the series. Over the course of the season, Colapinto achieved three more podium finishes in Spielberg, Budapest, and Zandvoort, and clinched a second Sprint Race victory at the final round in Monza. These performances earned him a ninth-place finish in the drivers’ standings.

In September 2023, Colapinto participated in the 2022 post-season test once again, this time with MP Motorsport. On January 9, 2023, it was officially announced that he would be driving for MP Motorsport during the 2023 season. At the season-opening Sakhir round, Colapinto secured the 12th position in qualifying but then claimed pole position for the Sprint Race, where he ultimately finished second, following Pepe Martí.
